Twelve screen analysis of an opening sequence - Orphan

The opening sequence i chose to analyse is Orphan because i believe it has realistic factors and its been very well produced to show a thrilling type of horror with a well thought out story line. The first screen shot shows the production logo of warner bros which is the large company in charge of many well known films and the second screen shot shows the logo of dark castle productions which is a small production company who are vertically intergrated by warner bros and have specialised in creating horror films from 1999.
Screen shots 3 and 4 show the name of the film but i used both of them because they are shown in completely different ways, screen shot 3 shows the title in a white font with a black background but as the sound gets louder the illuminous colours flicker on and off the screen which are the same colours used on screen shots 1 and 2 and with the scribbling handwritten font of screen shot 4 mixing with the colours shows the anger and story behind what happens later in the film. Screen shot 3 then fades into screen shot 4 which shows the white title agaisnt a black background again but this time with a bright light shining through most of the screen to give more of a calm and neutral feel about the film. the title is also shown in a different font to show thier is no comparison between the two shots apart from the title name.
The bright light from screen shot 4 suddenly gets brighter and fills the full screen to reveal a flashback type of setting in screen shot 5 in a hospital i know this because of the bright light continuing throughout the scene and the cloud like texture around the edge of the screen it shows a woman smiling but looking slightly nervous and i can tell that by the fact its a medium shot so you can see the expression in her face easier. Screen Shot 6 shows the camera then zooms out for screen shot seven still using the flashback effect to show the woman and a male character walking towards a desk and you can see she is heavily pregnant by the side view used and the reflection of the couple in the shiny silver wall showing they are both the main importance in this film.
The camera then pans round to reveal the woman sitting in a wheel chair going down a long corridor with a nurse in screen shot 7 this is shown as a birds eye view of them both going towards a blackened out area of the corridor which makes me think something bad is going to happen. screen shot 8 is a medium shot again just like 5 but this time the womans expression has totally changed from smiling to looking in pain and really shocked and you can tell why because she is showing her hands full of blood which immediatly makes you worry about whats happened the screen is then quickly moved to behind the wheel chair for screen shot 9 which shows the blood at different levels dripping from the wheelchair onto the floor and because its between the womans legs you immediatly think its coming from the baby which is why she looked so upset because it would be a scary time if something was wrong with the baby that far through the pregnancy.
Screen shot 10 looks again just like screen shot 7 as its a birds eye view of the corridor but in this shot it shows blood all over the floor with the woman and the nurse reaching the darken part of the corridor and because the scene is so white the blood stands out alot more and because the nurse hasnt worried and tried to get help you know that something isint right in this hospital.
A bright light is then shined which leads to screen shot 11 and shows the woman with a really sweaty face and looking ghost like because she has lost alot of blood and she is now laying on a operating table waiting to be dealt with, it also looks like she has been crying because her eyes are really purple and puffed up and you can tell she is fearing for the worst with the sad expression in her face.
The final Screen Shot i used is number 12 and it shows a doctor like figure standing over the woman with the bright side shining from behind him but if you look closely you can see it looks like the male characters face and you begin to wonder why he is also stepping back and not helping her which leads exactly to the point why this flashback is something the woman wants to forget as she was in a life or death situation and no one was prepared to help her not even her "husband".
